The music of Gary Stroutsos, world flutist, educator, composer and
performing artist, is in the spirit of acoustic based world flute music
inspired from personal travels and our natural world.
He has produced and recorded over a dozen albums and has been featured
throughout the world on the NPR syndicated programs Echoes with John
Diliberto and Skitch Henderson's New York Evening At The Pops as well as
on Ken Burns' PBS documentary, Lewis and Clark: The Journey Of The Corps
Of Discovery, which led to a command performance at the White House in
1997.
Although he is best known for his playing of traditional American Indian
flutes, Gary also performs on Altus Alto silver flute, contemporary clay
aerophones, and Chinese bamboo Xiao and Dize flutes that are seldom heard
outside of China. His repertoire is deeply respectful of ethnic cultures,
and their reverence for the Earth.
Influenced by American Jazz, Afro Cuban and Native American styles, his
multimedia performances of original compositions and traditional music
weave delicate melodies into a global landscape with improvisation, world
percussion and the sounds of nature. His music comes from the heart, his
travels, and friendships made along the way.
"I invite you on your own journey through music", says Gary. "This is a
music that carries a deep traditional lineage of world flute masters and
composers that have come before me ... sounds that reflect a spirit of
place and unity among all cultures."
Gary recently did the music for
Frederick and the Flute Maker. |
